The Space Abyss Tutorial

Complexity

In Space Abyss, there are no hard level caps preventing you from trying something. Instead we have a complexity system.

For example, if you head over to the Manufacturer Page and scroll to the bottom. You will see 'Complexity: 1'

Whenever you perform an action, if complexity is involved, a complexity check will be made. If your level is equal to or greater than the complexity, you will succeed 100% of the time. If you level is less than the complexity, there is a failure roll. The failure roll is from 1 to 10 (inclusive). If your level difference is greater than or equal to the roll, it fails.

A couple of examples!

You have a manufacturing level of 2, and are trying to make an Algae Vat (Complexity 4). There is a level difference of 2, so if the failure check rolls a 1 or a 2 it will fail. Otherwise, it will succeed.

You have a manufacturing level of 10 and are trying to make an AI (Complexity 22). The level difference is 12. The failure roll is only from 1 to 10, so 100% of the time this will fail.

The game has either 'Easy', 'Hard', or 'Too Complex' next to things you can make.

  • Easy means it will succeed 100% of the time.
  • Hard means it exceeds your level, and there will be a a failure roll
  • Too complex means the complexity is 10 or more levels higher than you

Next up: Death!!
